Soccer Update

Filed under: beanquest, soccer — Brian @ 6:48 am

Attendance – by players – at the games is shrinking faster than team membership. We started with 12 guys. One dropped out and another fell ill, so he’s out. That leaves us ten. We play eight on the field at a time, including goalie.

The last two games, we had only seven guys show up to play. The opposing teams agreed to play short, too, but this means nobody on our side gets a break. (And it’s not clear that the opposing team last week didn’t go back up to eight when we weren’t looking. I was in Chicago, so I missed that game, but I hear from others that they had one of “those” coaches…)

We’ve got a game today, and it’s rainy and cold out. If we don’t get at least seven guys, I think we’ll have to cancel the game. There is, of course, no guidance about this from the league, but the guys get exhausted when they’re one short and the weather is nice.

After today, one more practice and one more game and the season will be over.
